This policy explains what happens to data when you use campgearexperts.com. It is deliberately specific about the things that are unusual here, because most of what this site does not do is more interesting than what it does.
The short version#
There are no accounts, no logins, no newsletter and no comment system. We do not ask you for your name, your email address or anything else. Nothing you type into a calculator leaves your browser. The only third parties that see anything about your visit are our hosting provider and our advertising partners.
What the calculators do with your inputs#
Nothing leaves the page. Every calculator on this site runs entirely in your browser as JavaScript, with no request to any server, which is why they keep working when you have no signal. We do not log, store or transmit the values you enter.
Local storage on your device#
Packing checklists remember which items you have ticked, using your browser's local storage. That data stays on your device, is readable only by this site, and is never sent to us. Clearing your browser storage for this site removes it, and the "clear ticks" button on any checklist does the same thing.
We do not use local storage or cookies for analytics profiling of individuals.
Server logs#
Our hosting provider records standard technical information when a page is requested: the IP address, the time, the page requested, the referring page and the browser user agent. This is ordinary web server operation and is used for delivering the site, diagnosing faults and detecting abuse. We do not use it to build profiles of individuals.
Advertising#
This site is funded by advertising. Third-party advertising partners may set cookies or use similar technologies in your browser to select ads, limit how often you see the same one, and measure whether ads were seen. Depending on your location and your choices, some of this may involve personalised advertising based on data those partners hold.
Two things about that are worth stating plainly:
- We do not give advertising partners any information you have entered on this site, because we do not collect any.
- We do not sell reader data. There is nothing to sell.
Where the law requires consent for non-essential cookies, you will be asked before those cookies are set, and you can change your choice at any time. You can also limit or block advertising cookies in your browser settings, and use the industry opt-out tools your region provides. Blocking them does not affect any content or calculator on this site.
Children#
This site is written for adults choosing camping equipment, including equipment for children. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Your rights#
Because we hold no personal data of our own about you, there is usually nothing for us to retrieve, correct or delete on request. If you believe otherwise, or you want to ask about data held by our advertising partners, write to editors@campgearexperts.com and we will help where we can, including pointing you to the relevant partner's own controls.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under the UK GDPR, the EU GDPR, or state privacy laws in the United States, including rights to access, correct, delete or object to the processing of personal data, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. Exercising any of those against the advertising partners is done through the controls those partners provide, and we will point you to them on request.

Changes#
If this policy changes in a way that affects what is collected or shared, the date at the top of this page changes and the substance of the change is described here rather than replaced silently.
