Disclosure

How this site makes money, what commercial relationships exist, and the specific things we refuse. Written plainly rather than as boilerplate.

Independence claims are worth nothing without specifics, so here are the specifics.

How the site is funded#

By advertising displayed alongside the content. Advertising is bought and served as display inventory. Advertisers do not see content before publication, do not influence what is covered or how it is framed, and cannot have published content changed.

What we do not do#

  • No sponsored articles. Nothing here is written to a brief from a company, and nothing is published in exchange for payment.
  • No paid links. We do not sell links in editorial content, and we decline requests to insert them into existing pages.
  • No free products in exchange for coverage. We do not run a review sample programme.
  • No affiliate-driven structure. We do not build articles around products that pay a commission, and we do not name specific models as recommendations. If affiliate links are ever introduced, this page will say so before they appear, and every page carrying them will be labelled.
  • No undisclosed commercial relationships of any kind.

Why we recommend specifications rather than products#

Partly because product ranges change every season and a model recommendation ages badly. Partly because we do not run comparative laboratory testing, and publishing rankings without it would be dishonest. See how we evaluate gear.

The practical effect is that the advice here has very little commercial value to a manufacturer, which is a reasonable proxy for independence.

Advertising and your data#

Third-party advertising partners may set cookies or use similar technologies to serve and measure ads. What they collect, and your choices about it, are described on the privacy page. We do not sell reader data, we do not have accounts or newsletters, and nothing you type into a calculator on this site is transmitted anywhere: the calculators run entirely in your browser.

Corrections and challenges#

If you believe a page reads as though it were influenced by a commercial relationship, tell us: editors@campgearexperts.com. That is a serious complaint and it will get a serious answer, and if we agree, the change will be logged on the corrections page.
